5.1.14.2 Maintenance of Medical Gas, Vacuum, WAGD, and Medical Support Gas Systems
5.1.14.2.1 General. Health care facilities with installed medical gas, vacuum, WAGD, or medical support gas systems, or combinations thereof, shall develop and document periodic maintenance programs for these systems and their subcomponents as appropriate to the equipment installed.
Qualifications
Persons maintaining these systems shall be qualified to perform these operations
Appropriate qualification shall be demonstrated by any of the following:
- A documented training program acceptable to the health care facility by which such persons are employed or contracted to work with specific equipment as installed in that facility.
- Credentialing to the requirements of ASSE 6040 , Professional Qualifications Standards for Medical Gas Maintenance Personnel, and technically competent on the specific equipment as installed in that facility
- Credentialing to the requirements of ASSE 6030 , Professional Qualifications Standards for Medical Gas Systems Verifier, and technically competent on the specific equipment as installed in that facility
Our in person N.I.T.C. Credentialed ASSE 6040 Medical Gas Technicians course is a very educational and code driven course that is among the industries highest success rate.
Participant qualifications to take the MedGas technician’s test:
- Candidates must be employed or contracted by a health care facility, or actively engaged in working with medical gas systems.
- Candidates must have a minimum of one (1) year documented practical experience in the maintenance of medical gas systems.
- Candidate shall have completed a minimum 24-hour training course conducted by a Medical Gas Systems Instructor certified to ASSE Standard 6050 (This class)
Course fees are:
- $1,250.00 per participant; includes NITC application fee, NFPA99 2021 book, Thursday night pizza/study session, and proctor fee.
- If a participant fails the exam, they may retake the test at a Prometric testing center near them. Addition exam fees to NITC will be required.
